Punjab government has devised a strategy with the objective of controlling prices and to discourage middlemen mafia and 'arthis' so that the benefits may reach the commom man as well.
In this context directives have been issued to all fruit and vegetable markets, said Chairman Price control and Prices and supplies monitoring committee Khawja Tahir Zia Friday while addressing a meeting here. Director marketing Mohammed Ashfaque and staff of other districts deputy directors maketing were also present.
The meeting was told that landholders and growers are waiting arrival of new crop of fruits as they have removed old fruit trees while the young trees have yet to bear fruits. This was stated as the main reason behind escalated prices of fruits. According to a handout, the meeting while reviewing prices of various items observed that a comparison with last year shows that prices of sesonal fruits are lower this year. Chairman said last year there was a bumper crop of the fruits due to which prices were on the lower side. The meeting was informed that a strategy has been devised to maintain a check over fruit prices in times to come. |
