Week 4 was actually more active than previous week though it didn’t bring too much news. The main trends on the Russian market remained to be the same, only the difference between dramatic citrus situation and strong market for deciduous fruits became larger. Siberia has awaken after -40 C frost in week 3 and included itself into fruit trade under -20C which seemed to be not too cold anymore. Arrivals slightly increased in Saint-Petersburg to 17,000 tons in total, 2000 tons – from Spain. In the south of Russia it remained the same – about 10 000 tons in week 4.
Oranges The market turned into stagnation stage – too much fruits without demand. Egyptian oranges in Novorossijsk were offered on 0,87 $/kg. West of the country as well didn’t manage all the arriving volumes – 0,925 $/kg for Moroccan oranges in Saint-Petersburg. Turkey could take very little part of the market on 0,855 $/kg level.
Lemons The only positive citrus fruit in week 4. Prices jumped further up to 2,45 $/kg for Turkish lemons, Spanish ones were sold out completely. The shortage was felt in every region.
Mandarins No light in the tunnel during week 4. The bestseller among origins in mandarins market was Pakistan having at least a demand on 1,30 $/kg level. The range of prices for Moroccan clementinas was wide – from 1,22 to 1,63 $/kg. Spanish ones dropped to 0,81 $/kg though there were some offers on 1,00 $/kg.
Grapefruits/Pomelos Still no demand. Chinese pomelo was the only running product on 1,22 $/kg level.
Apples Moscow seemed to look starving for apples where prices for French Golden and Granny jumped to 1,82 $/kg. In general the demand was observed in all the regions. Chinese Fuji reached 2,24 $/kg level ! Everybody was searching for Polish and Serbian apples all of which kept above 1,43 $/kg.
Pears It was very strong demand for pears in week 4 due to delays of new arrivals. Conference went above 2,00 $/kg. The only quiet variety was Chinese Ya pears which were available everywhere and had limited demand on 1,18 $/kg level.
Grapes There were coming more and more Argentine Superior to the Russian market. However the prices didn’t change too much since last week and the main variety was still Thompson Seedless from South Africa.
Kiwis The same situation as last week – not much Italian kiwis available. Prices were from 2,45 $/kg up.
Pomegranates The main news in this sector – Russia put the ban on Indian produce which looked to be the important player in this time of the year.
Vegetables The onions stayed the same - 0,405 $/kg. Local produce was not in time to satisfy the demand so it was a temporary shortage of potatoes and white cabbage on the market. Tomatoes dropped to 1,30 $/kg in the beginning of the week but the end of it brought a positive trend – 1,43 $/kg. The local cucumbers appeared on the market and stopped the growth of prices. Capsicums remained on the same sad position – 2,45 $/kg both for Israeli and for Morocco.
