A recent Australian study reported that eating an orange a day may reduce the risk of certain mouth, throat, and stomach cancers by up to half. Fruits such as oranges are high in cancer fighting chemicals called antioxidants.
- When fruits are eaten raw they have higher levels of antioxidants and vitamin C. While drinking fruit juice provides some vitamin C, many of the health properties will have been removed and often sugar is added.
- Citrus fruits can reduce the risk of stroke, obesity, and diabetes. In this cold and flu season the vitamin C in fruit will help boost your immunity to fight off the common cold.
- While citrus fruits are the best source of antioxidants, you can also get them in all fruits and vegetables. The highest concentrations are found in the most brightly coloured ones. The other good news is that antioxidants are also found in wine, green tea, and cocoa.
- Why not opt for a juicy orange or grapefruit instead of having a glass of OJ for your breakfast tomorrow, or a tasty clementine or tangerine which are in season at the moment? |
