Tholen - In 2007, the volume of domestically grown fruit was unchanged compared with 2006. As the volume of imported products decreased with 5%, the market share of domestically grown fruit has increased. The market share amounted to almost 19%.
Last year, German consumers bought less fresh fruit for the second year in a row. In 2006, the volume decreased with 4% to 89,8 kg per household and in 2007 again with 4%. In both years, the price of the fruit increased.
With the exception of bananas, the sales volume of the ten most important types of fruit decreased. The main fruit remains the apple. In 2007, German households bought about 20,7 kg of apples, in comparison with 21,5 kg in 2006. The market share of domestically grown apples is high: 56% in 2007. |
